BAYANIHAN CUP 2006 OPENS TODAY (Edgar Polinar)

Riyadh - For all the finest breed and seasoned tennis aficionados in Riyadh region, all roads would definitely lead them to the Bayanihan Cup Team Tennis Challenge which opens today, September 15, 2006 at the Al-Yamama Hotel Tennis Courts, organized under the auspices of Pinoy Netters Club 102 in celebration of its 4th Year Anniversary.

A total of twelve teams at ten members each signed-up to participated in this year's prestigious event.  The traditional parade of teams in their uniforms, together with their cute muses, signals the start of the month long tournament.  It is scheduled to be played every Thursday and Friday evening.  It employs a unique game format, a first in the Riyadh region, wherein, all players have a chance to compete in the double and single matches.  In the double match, each player can have three partners from different category players in addition to his partner from his assigned category within his team.

As earlyas three weeks or so before today's event, players from different teams practiced rigidly to boost their team's chances in the tournament standing.  Pinoy Netters Club 102 envisaged that this tournament and the previous ones organized by the club would foster close camaraderie among Filipino workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The club is also deeply committed to lessen, if not to totally getting rid of the negative Filipino trait "kanya kanya" (each man for himself), system which is very prevalent among us, and to develop teamwork and transparency as exemplified through the conduct of every game and the club's mission and objectives.

Indeed, Pinoy netters Club102 , with its current President, Mr. Richard Villanueva, at the helm is deeply honored and privileged to host the Bayanihan Cup 2006, as tennis enthusiasts play and have fun with to some of the finest tennis players we could possibly find in the entire Riyadh Region.
